Module 8 

1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.

I chose the videos “ Understanding Art Baroque Part 1” and “Florence: Heart of the Renaissance”. I chose these two videos because they were completely new topics for me, I've never heard about either one and thought it would be interesting to learn something different. 

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. 

Understanding Art Baroque Part 1- This form of art first began in St. Peters Rome, then expanded to Italy. Baroque art which began in “The eternal City” is a mixture of different forms of art including, architecture, paintings and drawings. These pieces of art are examined and analyzed throughout the video. Waldemar Januszczak, discussed the importance of ceiling paintings and their value to Baroque art. Important artists discussed in these videos include, Borromini, who was responsible for the St. Peter’s cathedral and piazza. 

Florence : Hear of the Renaissance - This video covers the expansion of Italian art from the fifteenth century to modern day art. In this video the Artist covered were Michelangelo, Michelangelo and  Fra Angelico. These artist works kicked off the renaissance and led the way for modern art. Some pieces discussed in this video were Michelangelo's David, Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, and the 3D wonders of Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise. This video also covers Florentine Life, Florentine Monasteries and Florentine Fashion. 

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

Both these videos relate to the readings by cover both covering Italian Art and Architecture. They also covered the way we analyze art which I thought was a little different. In the video Understanding Art Baroque Part 1 the narrator analyzed the pieces of art very thoroughly. When analyzing art I was taught to try to think about what was going through the artist's mind while painting, drawing or designing and what was the message they were trying to convey. Both reading and videos show how Italian art and its Artist influenced modern day art. 

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

I liked the video Understanding Art Baroque Part 1 more, too. It was more interesting because it was analyzing different pieces of art. Which is one of my favorite things to do. Both these videos added depth to understanding of the reading and art concepts by digging further into art during the renaissance.
