Fundamentals of Art Inquiry
Module 7
1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Christianity- I learned the origins of the religion along with the important cathedrals such as Durham Cathedral, Chartres Cathedral and the Moscow Cathedral. This religion has changed much during time and has transformed into the most popular religion in the world.
Buddhism- Is a very family oriented religion which requires unity amongst the family. Buddhism is a religion based in India, which was founded around 400BCE. This religion has many important temples including Longmen Temple, Angkor Temple and the Water Temple along with others.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Both these videos relate to the reading in the aspect of describing both religions and describing the importance of their religion houses (Temples, Cathedral and Churches) and the architecture within those holy places. Both religions have similar forms of architecture and it's obvious to the public that those places are holy and must be respected.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to your understanding?
I believe both of these films were very interesting and informative. They both added depth to my understanding, by understanding the architecture and the art within these religions I can now understand more in depth about the religion. For example, I didn't know much about Buddhism except what I was taught in Social Studies about reincarnation and how meaningful family is. By watching this video now I fully understand this religion.
4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?
I picked Christianity because although it's my religion you can always learn more on things, I learned way more than I thought I would. I didn't know about christianity art because that's not really taught in church. I chose Buddhism because I wanted to expand my knowledge and become more knowledgeable about a religion I only knew a little bit about.
