Art Module 11
Questions about the Place:
1. What is the name of the Gallery/Museum you visited?
I visited the Sorolla Museum in Madrid, Spain.
2. What is the URL of the Gallery/Museum you visited?
3. Why did you select this Gallery/Museum?
I selected this museum because I am very interested in Spanish Art and also I've never been to Madrid Spain so I figure this was a good opportunity to adventure museums that I haven't been to.
Step 2: The Gallery
Questions about the physical space. (You must use Google Street View to "walk" through the gallery to observe the gallery space.)
1. What type of lighting is used?
White light and natural light from the windows are used all around the museum for a very bright space.
2. What colors are used on the walls?
Most walls are plain white but others are painted in an orange/ reddish color.
3. What materials are used in the interior architecture of the space?
In the interior architecture we can see a couple of different chandeliers. The museum also has spots that look very home-like, and seem ancient.
4. How is the movement of the viewer through the gallery space?
There is a good wide space to walk around all the art pieces, art pieces are spaced out and have a good distance from one another.

Questions about the artwork:
1. How are the artworks organized?
The artworks are organized into 6 categories, Joaquin Sorolla, Luminism, Impressionism, oil paint, canvas , Spain, Valencia, Sea, Modern Art, Wood and Plants.
2. How are the artworks similar?
His artwork is similar in style, for example whenever it's a painting of a female she is usually wearing a long white dress. There's only 2 or 3 paintings that show otherwise.
3. How are the artworks different?
The artwork can be seen as having different moods, for example some of his artwork can be seen as cheerful while others contain a more serious tone.
4. How are the artworks framed?
The artworks are framed in gold frames.
5. How are the artworks identified and labeled?
The artworks are identified and labeled by, having a little description in front of it in which the name and the description can be seen.
6. What is the proximity of the artwork to each other?
It depends on the collection. Some art pieces are closer to each other then others but i would say each art piece has around 5-10 inches of distance within that collection.

This painting is very beutiful, with a background of a beach. A woman can be seen with her infant child.
Description – Describe what you see. (subject matter)?
The woman in this painting is seen looking at a distance trying to see something but the sun is blocking her view. She is seen shadowing her eyes with one hand and holding her sun in the other hand.
Formal analysis – (form) What principles and elements were used and how are they used?
Color, mood, space, balance and movement.
4. Bracketing - Is there anything in or about this work that reminds you of anything else? Do you see any symbols, metaphors, or allegories? (iconography)
This art piece reminds me of when I used to live in Dr and my mom used to carry me to the beach in front of our house for a daily walk.
5. Interpretation - (content) What do you think the artist was trying to say?
I think the artist is trying to say that the mother is always going to be there for her son, despite everything and that when in hard times rely on your mom.

This painting has a background of a calm beach, it seems peaceful and calm.
Description – Describe what you see. (subject matter)?
I see a young woman sitting in front of a beach. This young woman is wearing a long white dress and is using her umbrella to shade her from the sun. She has a very peaceful face, she looks totally relaxed and peaceful.

Movement, texture, color form and value .
4. Bracketing - Is there anything in or about this work that reminds you of anything else? Do you see any symbols, metaphors, or allegories? (iconography)
This reminds me of going to the beach with my family members and just watching the waves quietly.
5. Interpretation - (content) What do you think the artist was trying to say?
I think the artist is trying to say that the waves can calm nerves and put people at ease.

This painting shows a beautiful difference in color, the background is one of different shades of green which I am guessing is grass.
Description – Describe what you see. (subject matter)?
In this painting I see 4 young ladies laying down in a field of grass. 3 of them are sleeping, the other one is seen calmly and peacefully reading.

Color, value, space and texture.

This reminds me of picnics in central park, where me and my friends go in the summer and then usually end up having at least 10 minute of quiet time in which we either take a nap or just be wrapped around in our own thoughts.
5. Interpretation - (content) What do you think the artist was trying to say?
I think the artist is trying to say that self care is important and it's important to take time to relax.
