Fundamentals of Art Inquiry

1. What were your expectations for this course and where they met?
My expectations were to learn the basics of art, while also learning about art history and some current art as well. I also wanted to learn the development over time in art. My expectations were all met.
2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your initial posting?
Art is an expression of a sort that requires human skill to be created. Art doesn't have to match anyone's perception of beauty but instead brings out a mixture of feelings when it's viewed and analyzed.
3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?
I still don't have a favorite artist but rather have a number of artists who attract me, Pablo Picasso, Mark Rothko and Hilma af Klint along with others. Nothing really changed, I am still very much interested in abstract art.
4. Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?
I would like taking an online class again, I feel like once you get the hang of it and plan ahead the work is very much do-able  and you're able to have more flexibility with your schedule.

Module #14
Fundamentals of Art

1. Use the vocabulary you have learned in class to describe this artwork or performance in detail.
In this art piece by Pablo Picasso created in 1937 tackles the subject of the Spanish Civil War and the suffering of the citizens. In this Piece we see the use of the art fundamentals of, shapes, line, color, value, dimension and space. In this abstract yet realistic piece which is telling a story it can be seen the sufferment due to the war going on.
2. What processes were used to create this work? What social influences might the artist be responding to and why?
This oil painting on canvas, was painted with paint that specifically had no gloss, the use of cameraless photography helped Picasso put this piece together. Picasso might be responding to the social influence of the desperation of the people. The violence and disaster, he thought that this moment should be captured and what better way to capture the moment then by painting his perception of the situation.
3. What is the relationship of this work to the time and society in which it was created? Describe the symbols used to express this relationship.
This work was directly connected to what was going on in society at the moment. In society the Spanish war was going on leaving a lot of deaths, injuries and creating a gloomy environment which Picasso illustrated in this piece by giving the piece only the different shades of black and gray as colors.
4. Identify elements in the work that evoke a persuasive or emotional response. Be specific about what those responses are and why.
The emotional response is going to be evoked by the color of the piece and by the gloomy and terrified faces of the individuals in the piece. When faced with tones of gray along with facial expressions such as the one in the painting the viewer of the painting might find oneself feeling the agony and desperation being felt at the time.
5. Evaluate what you perceive to be the strengths and weaknesses of the work.  Apply discipline specific vocabulary and concepts when describing your point of view.
Strength- Color of the piece adds on the the overall feeling of the painting
Facial expressions being ,ad by the characters in the painting tell a story
Each piece of the painting can be seen as an individual but together as a whole
Weaknesses- NONE

Module #13 Reflection on the Art Curation Exhibition

Module #13
Reflection on Art Curation Exhibition
May 3, 2020

Creating the Art Curation Exhibition wasn't hard, the most difficult part was choosing what art work I wanted to choose to be in it and deciding if it will fit my theme. There was some art work which I found which I didn't like because it was either meaningless to me or lacked simplicity. I wanted my art Curation Exhibition to exhibit abstract art that carries feelings and that carry a lot of meaning. After finding 12 pieces that I loved and showed significance, finding the information related to those pieces wasn't too hard. I liked this project because it gave me the opportunity to  explore the art that interested me.
