Fundamentals of Art 



1. Use the vocabulary you have learned in class to describe this artwork or performance in detail.
In this art piece by Pablo Picasso created in 1937 tackles the subject of the Spanish Civil War and the suffering of the citizens. In this Piece we see the use of the art fundamentals of, shapes, line,color, value, dimension and space. In this abstract yet realistic piece which is telling a story it can be seen the sufferment due to the war going on. 
2. What processes were used to create this work? What social influences might the artist be responding to and why?
This oil painting on canvas, was painted with paint that specifically had no gloss, the use of cameraless photography helped Picasso put this piece together. Picasso might be responding to the social influence of the desperation of the people. The violence and disaster, he thought that this moment should be captured and what better way to capture the moment then by painting his perception of the situation. 
3. What is the relationship of this work to the time and society in which it was created? Describe the symbols used to express this relationship.
This work was directly connected to what was going on in society at the moment. In society the Spanish war was going on leaving a lot of deaths, injuries and creating a gloomy environment which Picasso illustrated in this piece by giving the piece only the different shades of black and gray as colors. 
4. Identify elements in the work that evoke a persuasive or emotional response. Be specific about what those responses are and why.
The emotional response is going to be evoked by the color of the piece and by the gloomy and terrified faces of the individuals in the piece. When faced with tones of gray along with facial expressions such as the one in the painting the viewer of the painting might find oneself feeling the agony and desperation being felt at the time. 
5. Evaluate what you perceive to be the strengths and weaknesses of the work.  Apply discipline specific vocabulary and concepts when describing your point of view.
Strength- Color of the piece adds on the the overall feeling of the painting
Facial expressions being ,ad by the characters in the painting tell a story 
Each piece of the painting can be seen as an individual but together as a whole 
Weaknesses- NONE
