Module #6

Beyond the classical Byzantine and later Greek art
1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The main concepts of this video was the rise of Greek art along with the rise of the christiany church. Art was focused on gods, religion and beliefs.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the OER Content?
This video relates to the OER content because just like the OER content, this video emphasizes the importance of aesthetics and how it changed the art world.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the themes/topics for this week?
I believe they add depth to the understanding of the themes and topics for this week because it provides a lot of background information which leads to what we are learning. So for example the video was talking about art before the rise of Christianity, and how it changed after the rise of christianity. Having the context is important.

The Greek awakening : Art from the 5th century BC

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In this video, art from 500bc was discussed. It was also discussed the new developments and “art rules” that Greek artists and architecture have made. The importance of Greek art is discussed and how their art further developed the artistic world.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the OER Content?
This video relates to the readings in the OER content, by further discussing influential sculptures created by the Greeks and how these sculptures influenced the creation of the perfect image.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the themes/topics for this week?
This video added depth to my understanding because now I understand how much the Greeks actually influenced the art sculpting world. The concept of athletic, perfect individuals which are not realistic came from Greek culture. It can be said that our version of what a perfect body is, is because of Greek sculpting.

The measure of all things : Greek art and the human figure

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
This video discusses the art that the Greeks created in the 5Bc and how art moved to being centered about the human body. Greeks saw the human body as the most beautiful piece of art.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the OER Content?
This video relates to the OER content because in this video, the perfection of the body was discussed and how what we believe is to be perfection in the body is actually unrealistic, and never going to happen naturally. The perception of the perfect body, is incredibly muscular, tall, and actually unproportionate.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the themes/topics for this week?
This video added to the depth of my understanding of the perfect form that we still believe is the perfect body. Ever since the human body was started to be viewed as a form of art we created this unrealistic perspective of what beautiful is and that the reason why we are so self conscious with our own bodies. Because our bodies are going to look like the perceptions and like the picture we have mentally.

Peers blog links and comments.

Blog #1

The first art piece that I found interesting was the picture of the painting. The painting shows 2 boys laying down on the floor holding hands. I can say that to me this means that they rely on each other for strength. This piece is interesting because it can mean many things such as, it can mean their siblings just reading a book, it can mean their trying to educate themselves, etc.

Blog #2

We both found interesting Charles E. Burchfield's art studio. This studio had the feeling of realistic, like when viewing it you can almost get trapped into it and believe that you really are standing in his studio. I liked seeing the organized mess that it was, because it just means that hard work was getting done at the studio.

Questions

2. When looking at Project #1: (Elements and Principles), did you agree with the element or principle the artist listed with the images? Did you see other elements and principles in the images?
Yes I did agree with their elements and principles, her blog was very direct and she chose fairly simple things to take pictures of.
3. When looking at Project #2: Where there any images in the Peer Blogs the same as your own? If so, what were they? Where the reasons the image was selected the same or different as your own?
Yes, niesha and I had the same picture of Charles E. Burchfield's art studio. Her image was also at the same angle as mine so there are a lot of similarities in the photos.

4. Were there any images that your Peers selected that pique your interest now? If so, what are they and what is your connection with them? What would you want to know about them?
The first painting that Nelle posted I found very interesting. I believe that the image is maybe showing two siblings, I have siblings and were very close. So close, that we've probably laid on the floor holding hands doing something similar to the painting.
5. What do you think about  the process of reading your peers' reflection? Do you find this to be valuable in your learning?
Yes I do find it valuable. It's very motivating when you peers comment on positive things on your blog and tell you how good of a job you're doing.

6. Check your Blog and read comments posted by your Peers. Do you find their comments helpful?
Yes, the comments on my blog motivated me to continue doing the best I can in this class.
